Seeing as the blog is pretty quiet right now we might as well start a new topic. If you were 18 right now and eligible to vote in this tight election who would you vote for and why?
I would vote for John McCain because I don't think Obama is experienced enough yet to be president. I think McCain is prepared to reform our current policies that clearly aren't working and work with both the Republican and Democratic parties to get work done.
No matter who wins it is nice to see larger numbers of Americans voting, because the result of the election should really represent what the majority wants, not the 55% or so that usually vote.

I think that ever since T.R. all Presidents have been slaves of questionable intelligence to their administration. F.D.R. may be a possible exception. I think that the Republicans should have chosen Chuck Hagel, now that's a politician. A man of wisdom. I read a New Yorker article on him and was blown away. I think it is an insult of the highest order that McCain chose someone like Palin to be so close to the Presidency. She is the epitome of the worst of America, giving power to uneducated morons like Joe the Plumber. I saw that ignoramus on Fox talking about how Obama's views contradict democracy. What is he Joe the Political Scientist now? There's a slang word in German for these types, it's brolo. The farthest away they get from the White House the better. McCain was decent, but with such a time bomb on his back, figuratively speaking of course, it was better that he didn't win. Palin was way to close to undeserved power.
I would not vote for John McCain for precisely this reason.
I would have voted for John McCain. Since it was confidently predicted that the Democrats would have a majority in both houses of Congress, I believe electing a Democrat as president puts too much power in one party's hands. This takes away the checks and balances system. Without someone from a different party to veto far left legislation, Congress may pass laws that are too liberal. The country needed to find a balance in the middle, which could have been accomplished through electing a Republican, being John McCain. I also believe that he has a good amount of experience in foreign policy and would be able to navigate us through the war in Iraq. Just like Tyler said, I don't think Obama is experienced enough to be president.

But is it really wise to opt to elect someone just because he is of a certain party? Though having a "happy medium" is good, you can't elect the PRESIDENT just because he is of this or that party. You have to look at his policies. And if we're to go with the experience factor, what about Palin? All alone up in Alaska? Though I agree we should not elect someone with no experience, this is not the case with Obama. He's a senator, and so clearly has some experience. And what about Lincoln? How much experience did he have? Did that diminish his ability to lead and be a successful president? He certainly is remembered quite well.
